Photography

Theory and Practice

  • Basic assumptions

In first place, it is of extremely importance that the photographer has a vocation for the work he is developing.

To make a good photo the photographer is much more important than the equipment the equipment

Photos produced by a 35mm reflex camera.

Two important aspects:

  • Diaphragms
  • Shutter speed

In order to control light trough diaphragms:

The more open is a diaphragm the more light you have.

The more closed is a diaphragm the less light you have.

A more opened diaphragm means that time doubles.

Diaphragms and visual field's depth

The more open is a diaphragm, the less depth one has in visual field

The more closed is a diaphragm, the more depth one has in visual field.

Focal length also interferes with visual field's depth

The more focal length, the less depth one has in visual field

The less focal length, the more depth one has in visual field

Shutter speed also controls the entrance of light inside the camera.

A slower shutter click allows the film to receive light during More time

A quicker shutter click allows the film to receive light during Less time

The quicker the issue, the quicker the shutter, depending on the meaning of the issue.

In order to take nocturnal photos or even photos which require less than 1/30 sec. of speed, you need to use a tripod.

Opening the diaphragm means you can use much shorter times

Closing the diaphragm means you can use much more larger times

Film's sensibility

Gloomy ambiences: the use of films with higher sensibility, 400 ISO, or even more, provides excellent photographs. Besides you can use higher speeds.

Shining ambiences: the use of films with lower sensibility, 50 ISO, also provides excellent photographs.

Theory of Colour

The colours of the negatives

White

Red

Green

Blue

Cian

Magenta

Yellow

Filters

Sky light 1A filter – Protects the lens from the objective without damaging the image.

UV filter- Eliminates blue tones present in photos taken from high places.

Magenta filter- Prevents green light from high exposition

Diffusing filter- misty or soft images

Polarizing filter- Exceptional colours and reduces the brightness of sunlight on non-metallic surfaces (glass, water, etc.).

FL filter- Eliminates green from illumination with fluorescent lights.
